The Pokémon TCG scene is on fire right now. With the hype around Pokémon TCGP and the new Prismatic Evolutions set, collectors and players alike are scrambling to get their hands on the anything they can. Things have gotten so wild that we’ve even seen fights breaking out at Costco over 151 boxes.

With all this excitement, how has the graded market been affected? This month, we’re breaking down the biggest winners and losers in both English and Japanese Pokémon cards!

All trends are based on PSA 10 sales.

Top 3 Biggest Gains and Losses for English Pokémon Cards

Climbers

Card % Change Sales Start Price End Price
Kingdra ex • SVP Black Star Promos +205% 45 $59 $180
Giratina VSTAR • Crown Zenith Galarian Gallery +176% 14 $182.5 $504
Chansey • Twilight Masquerade +157.5% 11 $73.8 $190

Leading the pack—surprisingly—is Kingdra ex from the SVP Black Star Promos. This promo card has skyrocketed by 205%. This could be a sign that Pokémon cards are getting harder to find in general, as Shrouded Fable collection boxes (where this promo comes from) were once considered one of the worst modern sets.

Crashers

Card % Change Sales Start Price End Price
Bulbasaur • 151 -44% 15 $200 $112
Hydreigon ex • Surging Sparks -25.7% 11 $270 $200.5
Alolan Dugtrio • Surging Sparks -17.6% 14 $120 $98.8

Not all cards are climbing. Bulbasaur from 151 dropped by 44%. Could this be a sign of the Blooming Waters Box Set increasing supply and softening demand?

Meanwhile, two cards from Surging Sparks—Hydreigon ex (-25.7%) and Alolan Dugtrio (-17.6%)—are also losing steam. The reason could be that Prismatic Evolutions is the new hotness, and collectors have moved on. If you’re looking to snag these cards at a discount, now might be a good time.

Top 3 Biggest Gains and Losses for Japanese Pokémon Cards

Climbers

Card % Change Sales Start Price End Price
Suicune • VSTAR Universe +95% 13 $41 $80
Persian • Night Wanderer +93% 59 $35 $67.7
Snorlax • Dark Phantasma +66.7% 19 $50 $67.7

Japanese cards aren’t seeing the big gains that English ones are, but still there are some movements. Suicune from VSTAR Universe is continually selling above the 20 day moving average, an indicator that it could continue to climb.

Crashers

Card % Change Sales Start Price End Price
Espeon ex • Terastal Festival ex -52.21% 14 $340 $162.5
Eevee ex • Terastal Festival ex -31.7% 12 $150 $102.5
Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex • Crimson Haze -30.1% 11 $66 $46.1

On the flip side, Espeon ex from Terastal Festival ex took a hit, dropping 52.21% from $340 to $162.50. Similarly, Eevee ex also fell 31.7% to $102.50. This drop is almost certainly tied to Prismatic Evolutions launching, shifting demand away from the Japanese set.

January has been a wild ride for the Pokémon market. The ongoing hype around Pokémon TCGP and Prismatic Evolutions has had a clear impact, and it’ll be interesting to see how the trends continue in the coming months.
